Gentry builds her compositions on strict symmetry and an internal grid: the vertical rhythm of the columns holds the form as an architectural order holds a building. Biomorphic silhouettes grow out of this structure, as if nature were arguing with the construction on its own terms.
The series refers to the medieval tapestries “The Lady and the Unicorn”, to their palette and symbolism of the senses, but translates this imagery into the language of layers of diluted acrylic and soft gradients that dissolve toward the edges of the canvas.
