The chapel stands in Monks' Lagoon on Spruce Island, on the site of the cell of Saint Herman of Alaska. It was built by Father Gerasim, who devoted his life to Herman's memory. The building measures 12 feet 4 inches by 14 feet 3 inches, roughly four meters by four and a half.
A wood frame, siding beveled on both edges, white paint and turquoise window trim. The shingle roof has long been overgrown with moss, and a small canopy hangs over the door. Inside is a single room: a tongue-and-groove floor, plywood walls covered with icons, and an altar on the east wall.
