Photographs from Maria Lax's book Some Kind of Heavenly Fire, published by Setanta in 2020. It's about a small Finnish town where the residents are sure that aliens visit them, and strange lights appear in the sky from time to time.
Lax photographs the lights themselves and the ordinary life around them. At night a column of light stands over the pines, and the trunks are lit red. Inside the houses there is wood paneling, elk antlers above a freezer with a flashlight on its lid, and a stuffed wolverine on the wall with jackets on hooks beneath it.
