A mosque in Dhaka, built and run on donations from the people who live around it. The budget was small, so the brick was left raw: it needs almost no upkeep, and both the brick and the craftsmen came from nearby.
The load-bearing brick walls also form the outer layer, which holds the entrance, the ablution area and other service rooms. The bricks are laid with gaps, so air passes through into the prayer hall. The same gaps work as facade ornament and point back to the terracotta mosques of Bengal.
