MVRDV's private house sits on a corner plot in west Rotterdam, on the site of an old hospital. Toward the street it presents a 1930s-style brick wall that shows almost nothing of the inside. The entrance is a shallow dent in the white brickwork, with Celosia perforated-brick detailing, and it leads into a dark, closed entrance hall.
The south side is open. Curved glass runs along the whole façade and wraps around an olive tree, which the house is built around. From the dark hall the living space opens up suddenly, full of light. Day and night zones are kept apart.
