The house is an hour's drive northwest of Lisbon, on a ridge above a valley and the ocean. Its shape is like a child's drawing: two pitched planes and no details, only plaster in a dusty pink-red, walls and roof in the same tone. The volume is raised slightly above the slope on a concrete platform.
The clients, a couple from Munich, emailed the architect, and he suggested holding the first meeting in Bregenz, at Zumthor's Kunsthaus. It was early 2020. At first the project fixed only the footprint; extrastudio worked out the rest on site with the builders, sometimes choosing a material at the moment of installation.
