Zumthor's project came after an avalanche destroyed the old chapel. The new volume is compact, composed, without rhetoric. Shingles, glass, thin columns. The roof is like a boat, the walls like a shell.
As always with Zumthor: precise work with material, a minimum of form, a maximum of presence. The architecture does not announce itself; it simply shapes silence into a volume.
