This concrete monument was created in memory of the soldiers of the Negev Brigade who fell in 1948 during the Arab–Israeli War. It stands on a hill east of Beersheba and has become one of the iconic symbols of both the city and the entire Negev region. Beyond its memorial function, the monument is considered one of the forerunners of the land art movement.
