Rossi's first building in Japan is not just a hotel. Travertine, patinated copper, columns and shadows: the building looks more like an urban monument than a residential function.
In 2023, Uchida Design Inc. rethinks the project, not undoing it but retuning it. The palette becomes bolder; references to Memphis appear, along with mirrors, neon and dense light. The main entrance moves down to street level, and the basement turns into the El Dorado bar, with water installations and the glitter of the night scene.
This is neither a restoration nor nostalgia. It is a continuation in a new tone, a building that once again takes on the role of the city.
