UTEC university in Lima was completed in 2014. It was designed by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of the Irish firm Grafton Architects together with local office Shell Arquitectos. The brief asked for a "man-made cliff": ten floors of reinforced concrete echo the real cliff nearby.
It stands on the Malecon in Miraflores, where the city ends in rock above the Pacific. Photographer Arnau Rovira Vidal went after The Guardian put the building on its list of the world's top ten. Next to the ordinary buildings around it, he says, it looks enormous, and what he likes most is the layers you can see from outside.
