Casa Mérida sits in Mérida, Yucatán. All that survives of the old house is the front façade and the cream-colored stone perimeter walls. Behind them runs a plot 80 meters long and 8 wide, a length that nods to the sacbe, the Mayan road system.
Godefroy moved the backyard to the front and pushed the kitchen, living room and pool toward the rear. Benches, ceilings and three oversized rainwater collectors are all cast from local raw concrete. The bright blue pool at the far end is modeled on the cenotes, the region's natural sinkholes.
