The house stands on an old shopping street in Osaka where an arcade used to be. The roof over the street is gone, some shops have closed, and three-story homes have replaced them. Torn tents and awnings are what is left.
The ground floor opens to the street like a townhouse, with a dirt floor inside and a small awning of agricultural cloth outside. A second piece hangs from the eaves and covers the upstairs windows. It answers the awning of the fish shop across the road. The walls are ceramic siding that copies the clapboard on neighboring houses. The loft is kept for later: it can be a master bedroom or a children's room.
