The salt warehouse sits on the administrative site of the Houffalize district, in farmland where agricultural sheds are part of the view. The architects went back to the shed, just a very large one. The size comes from what is stored inside, so the building reads as a single big silhouette on the site.
The cladding is polycarbonate that switches between transparent and reflective, and from both inside and outside it looks like stained glass. On stormy winter nights the warehouse glows and comes to life with the trucks moving in and out. The frame is timber, an answer to the aggressive environment of salt storage that also echoes the forestry of the region.
