The old administrative offices in the Old Wing of Versailles now hold a reception hall between the Cour Royale and the Cour des Princes. It starts in the Galerie des Lustres on the ground floor: a high-ceilinged room that opens onto both courtyards and is the first thing a visitor sees.
To get rid of the cramped feeling, a trench was dug under the buildings and the Cour des Princes, which made room for larger volumes at garden level. The route runs as a loop, like in the big museums, and begins and ends at the reception hall and a marble staircase with a golden prism beside it. The two spaces are joined like the clasp of a necklace.
