The former slaughterhouses in Pauillac, on the bank of the Gironde estuary, have become the headquarters of a wine merchant. Four buildings sit between the town and the river behind a stone wall, and they always worked as a closed ensemble, shut off both physically and from view.
Sapiens Architectes, with Baptiste Manet and Yann Legouis as lead architects, kept the wall and the buildings. They cut openings into the enclosure and joined the volumes that used to stand apart, which gave the new workspaces. Completed in 2019.
