Maraya means "mirror" in Arabic, and the hall is clad in mirrored panels on every side, so it simply reflects the sand and rock around it. It was built in AlUla, in northwestern Saudi Arabia, for the first Winter at Tantora festival. The festival ran from December to February; the start of the sowing season was celebrated here, and concerts were held.
Twenty-two kilometres away lies Mada'in Salih, known as Hegra, where the Nabataeans carved their tombs straight into golden Quweira sandstone. The client was the Royal Commission for AlUla, and the video art for the hall came from the studio Bonsaininja.
